Yo', Murderers...Happy Thursday!
I hope this post finds you writing and plotting a novel like never before. I am reading a good book on creativity. It is inspiring me. What inspires you to write? Do you have a special place to write? I used to. Now I am a write wherever I am kind of person. I can write long-hand, or on computer, doesn't matter.
What gets you in the writing chair? Do you set deadlines for yourself?
Post up your comments, and let us know!

Starting out the new year by writing a novel
Good day, Murderers...
So we made the 101 Best Sites list again (Writers Digest Writers Yearbook 2017), and I wanted to thank everyone for being a part of our little family here. We have had ups and downs *personally I am having a lot of downs right now* but this site has survived it all.
This week I want to address those of you (us)who are starting out this new year writing a book-maybe for the first time. Maybe it is not your first book, but you are finally committed to finishing it.
Either way, this post might be of some benefit.
What does one do when they have an idea that won't leave them alone? Characters that talk to them all day and night? A setting that demands to be developed in a literary way?
Well, WRITE IT DOWN!
That's the real first step to writing anything. Just start. One page a day. 250 words on a computer screen will get you far when it becomes a daily habit. Try it. Try writing 250 words on a blank Word Doc and see if you don't discover that once you get started you could keep going on and on.
My problem is not getting started sometimes, sometimes it is STOPPING!
And do this without thought for correct spelling, syntax, or anything else...just write!
I would love to hear what your process is, or your questions are...post them up below!

Murderers, as writers
Good day, Murderers!
I hope this finds you doing something that fulfills you.
What is everyone reading?
Yes, reading is a part of being a writer. I am usually reading two books at a time, one electronically and one in paper. At the moment, I am reading The Book of Joy in paper. It is a very good read. It is written by a gentleman who spent time with The Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu as they celebrated one of the holy men's birthday. It is filled with wonderful advice on how to live a joy-filled life. We all could use that, right?
The other one I am working on my Kindle app is Dare to Love by Carly Phillips. It is romance, not something for everyone, but still a worthy read.
I am supposed to be writing a page a day on the next Shannon Wallace book but have some personal family things going on at the moment that is blocking any sort of creative endeavor beyond blogging. I sure hope 2017 doesn't keep going like it has begun. So far, it has pretty much sucked.
But you don't want to hear that do you??
Murderers, as writers, you should be reading something. And as writers, you should be writing something. Even blog posts. EVERY DAY. Don't forget if you do this for 21 days it will become a habit.
Do not do as I do. Do as I say do.
Happy Thursday, y'all.

Happy New Year and what are you doing?
Ahoy, Murderers!
It's a new year and I hope you are writing like mad. I have been working on the next book in the Shannon Wallace Mysteries, and if you didn't catch the promo, you definitely want to read Schooled in Murder. I have a cool new subplot in this book that is carried over into the next two books.
Ah here is the link:
Schooled in Murder by Kim Smith
What are you reading? This year I hope to get more books consumed than ever before. I am reading The Book of Joy by Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu, and Douglas Abrams and I am also reading Brotherhood of the Wheel by RS Belcher. Both very intriguing books for different reasons.
In my personal life, I have once again begun the annual trek for good health. I was very bad over the holidays and have to rein it in. I am eating veggies and drinking water as a way to calm my inflamed tastebuds. They are still screaming for fudge, and Chex Mix. I hate to tell them that Super Bowl season is on its way.
That's about it for me, you MB4 fiends. Hope your first week back into the world has been one of viral-substance.

Happy New Year!
Hi, folks!
I hope you and your loved ones enjoyed a wonderful holiday. It can be a hectic time of year, and when the new year comes 'round, sometimes it's nice to sit back and relax with a good book. Lots of folks get Kindles for Christmas, and if you have an ereader of any kind, I hope you discover some intriguing stories that transport you to other worlds.
I wanted to let you know Devil's Spring is now available on Amazon! It seems we've waited forever for this January 1st release, doesn't it?
The eBook is on sale for its premier launch for only $0.99, but will go back to its usual price of $2.99 in a few weeks. So get your copy soon!
The print book is also available through Amazon, but the audiobook won't be here for a few months. Fortunately, we've won the services of Gwendolyn Druyor again, so we can hear the familiar voices of Portia, Grace, Anderson, Boone, Daisy, Dirk, and more. ;o) I'm so excited to start this project!
Devil's Spring ebook
Devil's Spring paperback
Bittersweet Hollow Romantic Suspense series:
1) Devil's Lake (free)
2) Devil's Creek
3) Devil's Spring
These books can easily be read in any order. ;o)
Next on the horizon? I plan to start writing book 12 in the LeGarde Mystery series soon. Stay tuned.
Here's to a Happy New Year and healthy 2017!
