Where Do You Write?

Hello, folks.

In the midst of doing tons of renovations in our old 1811 home, thinking about the upcoming job interview this week, babysitting for my little grandkids, and working on my book, I started to think about how sweet it would be to have a room just for writing. I know lots of you have offices out there where you write your hearts out... but you probably don't have nine people living with you, either! Ha! Yeah, we're jammed in all over the place, and the last thing I'd ever get would be an actual WHOLE room to write in.

So, I do what I have to, and have good headphones and lots of music that blocks out the TV nearby. I thought it would be fun for you to send me photos of your writing space (or describe it below in the comments), and I'll post the pictures (aaron dot lazar at yahoo dot com).

Here's where I usually write when I'm home, although having a laptop does make life easier if I decide I want to sit by the fire on the couch, or write on the porch. I love my comfy leather chair, and my new bed's pretty darned cushy, too. I'm one lucky guy. ;o)

Here's hoping you have a wonderful week. And don't forget - write like the wind!

I'm on a small table in the dining room looking out over the lake. I forget to look up sometimes, but when I do, the view takes my breath away. I tried the room in the back of the house, but it felt too much like being in the ground. I'm writing about life while surrounded by it. Seems to be working.

Great post, Aaron. I'm off to edit like the wind.

Cool, Joylene... You know, some of the best stuff I ever wrote was waterside at rental cabins on the Fingerlakes or in the Adirondacks on the river. There's something magical about that water... I'm envious of your locale!!!

I write from the bathtub. You think I'm kidding, don't you? It is one of the few places my family doesn't think I am fair game to ask for stuff, the fan drowns out family noises, and the relaxation allows my creativity to flow. Plus, as a tart, the nudity never hurts... I type at a table in the basement and that is round one of editing, but I do the creative process with a pen and spiral notebook in the tub.

This is great, WT. I assume there aren't any photos of your writing nirvana coming in my email? LOL. Thanks for sharing, and isn't it amazing what we'll do to find ourselves a little bit of quiet time so we can let our muses out!

Well - for now I've got my disastrously disorganized, spray-painted, falling apart office (which, I recently noticed, also has a broken window!) I look like a real starving artist in here - especially right now, as I'm huddled in a blanket because it still isn't warm in the mornings and we got no heat. *G*

Yeah, Sonya, what happened to all those gorgeous warm days we had in March and April so far? Geez. Your description borders on romantic, dear friend. Starving, cold, cluttered, broken windows. I've got the broken windows going, too. I hate replacing those stupid little panes and I have over a dozen that need to be done. Drat. Another project on the list! Hope you can warm up in the sun later, it's supposed to get almost to 60 today!

I'm a bit late here and still trying to catch up with things. Where I write? In my office, at my desk surrounded by my books and music. Once in a while I might take my laptop out in the patio. The change sometimes makes for amazine ideas.

Hey, Marta! I've always been a bit jealous of your office. LOL! And picturing you outside on your patio is cool, too. Amazing what a new environment does for the creative juices, huh?

No photos at the mo! I'll have to work on that. *teehee* It is equal parts 'desperation for solitude' and just enjoying the whole experience more that way.

I have an office--usually piled high with many projects. I'm preparing for the Public Safety Writers Association Conference since as program chair I have a lot of stuff to take with me.

I write on my computer sitting at my desk. We have an adult grandson living with us, an adult son, his wife and daughter only yards away. I'm interrupted a lot--but I have been all my life, so it doesn't bother me.

Meredith, sounds like our house, too. My adult daughter and her fiance, plus her three children live with us, plus my mother-in-law. I love it - the chaos is a delight. But sometimes I'm REALLY glad when they're all in bed and I can retreat to my writing world. ;o)

You'll usually find me settled in my comfy rocking chair with a laptop and with music playing through my headphones to tune out the world.

Anne, that comfy rocking chair sounds wonderful! Thanks for stopping by and sharing. ;o)
