Have you ever left a tip for a waiter or waitress at a restaurant? Did they actually deserve it? What about the cook who made your food? Fifteen percent of the cost of your meal is the recommended amount to leave, and how the establishment splits it between the workers is unknown.
We all leave tips, right? And yet so many pay only $0.99 for a book that lasts much longer than a fabulous meal and can effectively change your life. In addition, many readers just go on and buy another book, maybe by that same author or similar author and give no mind to thanking them for changing their life.
It's important and costs readers just a few minutes of time, those same few minutes he or she spent calculating the minimum tip amount for the person who brought the food. I show no disrespect to the hard work these waiters and waitresses put forth, but a book can take years and many people to make available for you to enjoy.
A review for authors is much more valuable than fifteen percent of the purchase price. Word of mouth is the most fantastic form of marketing and constructive feedback helps each of us grow. Waking up one morning to find a glowing review is amazing and motivating to keep going and may be all an author needs to sell another book and feed their child an extra serving of something delicious.
Please consider this when you read your next book and before you pick up the next.
And, of course, thanks for reading!
