Getting Inside the Author's Head

Have you ever wondered about the inspiration for your favorite author's books? Or where that unique character came from? Was she real? Was she imagined? Was she based on you? (grin)
a
Have you pondered what drove the author to escape through his private parallel universe? What demons is he fleeing? What wounds is he trying to heal?
a
Or is it all just madcap fiction, made up from a well of deep stories that keeps on bubbling to the surface of his all too creative mind?
a
I've answered these questions and many more lately, through indulging in a number of radio interviews this year. It's been a learning experience, for sure. But it's also one of the sweetest ways to get close to my readers and share intimate thoughts relating to life, losses, and writing. If you'd like to take a listen to a few of the most recent shows, feel free to click on the following links. And when you're done, email me at aaron dot lazar at yahoo dot com with feedback. If you don't already know, I love connecting with readers and consider it one of the best parts of being a writer.

About the author: Aaron Paul Lazar writes to soothe his soul. Columnist and author of twelve LeGarde Mysteries and Moore Mysteries, Lazar savors the countryside in the Genesee Valley in upstate New York, where his characters embrace life, play with their dogs and grandkids, grow sumptuous gardens, and chase bad guys.

Aaron, I think characters come from a mix of experiences. Ideas are triggered by something we've seen, heard, felt, etc. Although we add our creative touches I sense that most have their start in reality. Except Sam, of course, he's all mine. :)

Wonderful news about the award, Bill. Thanks so much!

Hi, Marta. You're right. Of course, you know some of my characters are tributes to folks I've loved and lost. The closer I mirror their unique and delightful personalities, the more I feel they're honored. But 80% of my characters are right out of the old imagination. I love how these people just "show up" out of the blue. Great fun.
