The Mailman Cometh

I’ve been querying agents since July with my latest novel, SHROUD OF LIES. I know I've not been at this as long as some, but lately my motto has become, “A day without mail, is a day without rejection.” Such is life, but to my surprise and delight, I received the most wonderful piece of mail this past Saturday—my copy of Aaron Paul Lazar’s latest release, HEALEY’S CAVE.

When Aaron and I first met a few years ago, my introduction to his work was to read an excerpt from HEALEY’S CAVE. Even as an early draft, the writing, the character of Sam Moore, and the fascinating storyline drew me in. Since then I’ve come to know the man behind the writing—his passion for the craft, his dedication to his family, and the joy he finds in life’s simple pleasure are all meticulously woven into his characters and the tales he tells.

Now I can’t wait to read it in its final form. Thanks so much Aaron, and all the best with this wonderful addition to your long list of publications.

  1. Marta, you surprised me with this! What a doll you are. Thank you!

I'm sitting in my Thailand hotel room (Wed. afternoon your time, 3:45 am Thursday Bangkok time) getting ready to go home again. It's been a long and interesting week (more about that later!)

Thanks for your friendship during these tumultuous years we've both had - it's been such a fun ride!

  2. Oh, and P.S.... I once read that if you don't receive at least one rejection in the mail every day, you're not querying enough. ACK! I never got to that level - I think maybe this applied to magazine story subs, etc. ;o)
