I clearly reme...Christine, this is a great article! I clearly remember being schooled in NEVER starting a sentence with "and" or "but," however, in my many years of writing and reading I have come to accept that it is totally acceptable and also used every day in natural speech. I've given myself a lot of "free rein" in my writing to allow it to sound as natural as possible.
